# Google AI Overviews API — overview text, sources and SERP

> Search Google and get the AI Overview with its sources, products and citation chips, plus the results page around it.

`GOOGLE` searches google.com and returns the AI Overview together with the search results page it sits on.

| | |
| - | - |
| taskType | `GOOGLE` |
| Aliases | `GOOGLE_AIO` |
| Reads | `query` (falls back to `prompt`) |
| Credits | 1.25 |
| Country | Optional, default `US`. `CN` asks Google's US market from a device in Beijing. |
| Location | Accepts `payload.location`. See [Regions and location](/engines/capacity.md). |

## Request

```bash theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
curl -X POST https://api.querying.ai/v1/async/task \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $QUERYING_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "taskType": "GOOGLE", "payload": { "query": "best CRM for a small team", "country": "US" } }'
```

## Response

The response is a search-results envelope with the AI Overview as one nullable member, `aioverview`.

> [!WARNING]
>
> `aioverview: null` means **Google showed no AI Overview** for the query. It is not an error: the task completes, and the results fields around it are still populated.

| Field | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `aioverview` | object or `null` | The AI Overview. Fields below. |
| `organicResults` | array | Organic results. |
| `peopleAlsoAsk` | array | The "People also ask" panel. |
| `relatedSearches` | array | Related searches. |
| `knowledgeGraph` | object | The knowledge panel. |
| `ads` | array | Top and bottom ads. |
| `map` | array | The local pack: `name`, `position`, `placeId`, `location`, `mapsUrl`, `reviews`, `category`, `price`, `snippet`, `image`. |
| `serp` | object | Other panels: `topStories`, `videoResults`, `localMap`, `discussionsAndForums`. |
| `rawContent` | string | The rendered results page HTML. Only with `include.rawResponse`. |
| `text`, `sources` | | Deprecated copies of `aioverview.text` and `aioverview.sources`. Read `aioverview.*` in new code. |

Results panels are **omitted** when the page has none, never sent as `null` or `[]`. Treat each one as optional.

### `aioverview`

| Field | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `text` | string | The overview text. Product card titles are kept in it. |
| `sources` | array | `position`, `url`, `label` and `description`. |
| `markdown` | string | The overview as Markdown. Only with `include.markdown` or `include.aioverview.markdown`. |
| `shoppingCards` | array | Product tiles beside the answer: `title`, `position`, `price`, `oldPrice`, `store`, `rating`, `reviews`, `thumbnail`, `productLink`. |
| `inlineProducts` | array | Product names linked in the answer: `title`, `position`, `productLink`. |
| `citationPills` | array | One entry per source behind each citation chip. |
| `videos` | array | Videos the overview shows: `title`, `link`, `platform`, `channel`, `duration`. |
| `sponsored` | array | Sponsored items inside the overview: `label`, `title`, `advertiser`. |

Product, chip, video and sponsored fields appear only when the overview shows them. `price.currency` is the symbol as shown (`$`, `€`), `reviews` keeps Google's abbreviation (`2.3K`), and `productLink` is Google's product page.

In `citationPills`, sources in the same chip share a `citationPillId`, numbered in answer order, and `position` points at the matching `aioverview.sources` entry. A page only a chip cites is in `aioverview.sources` too, after the pages the overview lists, and its `label` is empty when Google shows no title. Each entry has `label`, `url`, `domain`, and, when Google shows them, `site`, `description` and `thumbnail`. When the response carries `markdown`, `markdownOffset` gives the chip's place in it; `sponsored` entries carry `labelOffset`, `markdownOffset` and `noteOffset` the same way.

For example:

```json theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
{
  "aioverview": {
    "text": "Popular CRMs for small teams include HubSpot CRM and Pipedrive ...",
    "sources": [{ "position": 1, "url": "https://www.example.com/crm-guide" }],
    "citationPills": [
      { "label": "CRM guide for small teams", "citationPillId": 1, "url": "https://www.example.com/crm-guide", "domain": "example.com", "position": 1 }
    ]
  },
  "organicResults": [
    { "position": 1, "title": "The best CRM for small teams", "link": "https://www.example.com/crm-guide", "snippet": "..." }
  ],
  "relatedSearches": [{ "query": "free crm for small team" }],
  "text": "Popular CRMs for small teams include HubSpot CRM and Pipedrive ...",
  "sources": [{ "position": 1, "url": "https://www.example.com/crm-guide" }]
}
```

## Include flags

| Flag | Effect |
| - | - |
| `markdown` | Adds `aioverview.markdown`. `include.aioverview.markdown` does the same. |
| `rawResponse` | Adds `rawContent`, the rendered results page. |
| `html` | Adds `html`, the results page as a shareable file. See [HTML pages](/engines/html-pages.md). |
| `analysis` | Adds `analysis`, 1 credit. See [Answer analysis](/engines/answer-analysis.md). |
| `citationAnalysis` | Runs a [Citation Analysis](/research/citation-analysis.md) on the overview. |

`searchQueries`, `ads` and `shopping` have no effect. See [Markdown and raw responses](/engines/response-options.md). For organic results without the overview, faster and for 1 credit, use [Google Search](/engines/google-serp.md).

## China

Google shows the China market no AI Overview. A `CN` task therefore asks Google's US market (`gl=us`) from a device located in Beijing, the way people on the mainland reach Google. A task with its own `payload.location` uses that location instead.
