# Doubao API — answers and search results from ByteDance's China web chat

> Ask Doubao, ByteDance's China web chat, a question and get its answer, the search results it read and its search queries.

`DOUBAO` asks Doubao's web chat at doubao.com with its web search on and no account or login involved.

## Request

Doubao answers guests only from mainland China, so every task leaves from a mainland exit and `country` does not change it. You can omit it.

| `images` | array | Images shown with the answer, when there are any. |
| `videos` | array | Videos shown with the answer: `title`, `url`, `medium`, `image`, `thumbnail`, `image_width`, `image_height`. |
| `rawResponse` | array | Stream events. Only with `include.rawResponse`. |

Many sources are Douyin video pages. The answer text carries no citation marks: `sources` lists what Doubao read, not what it cited.

## Include flags

| `rawResponse` | Adds `rawResponse`. |

`markdown` needs no flag. `searchQueries`, `ads` and `shopping` have no effect. `analysis` is rejected with `422 VALIDATION_ERROR`, `citationAnalysis` with `400 VALIDATION_ERROR` and `html` with `422 EVIDENCE_UNSUPPORTED`. See [Markdown and raw responses](/engines/response-options.md).
