# Bing Search results and AI summary API (BING_SEARCH)

> Get bing.com organic results, ads and related searches, plus the AI summary Bing shows above them.

`BING_SEARCH` loads the bing.com results page for a query and returns its organic results, ads and related searches, with the AI summary Bing renders above them as `aioverview`. No account or login is involved.

| | |
| - | - |
| `taskType` | `BING_SEARCH` (aliases `BING`, `BING_COPILOT_SEARCH`) |
| Input | `query` or `prompt` (required), up to 4,000 characters; `country`, `include` |
| Credits | 1 per task |
| Country | Defaults to `US`. Any ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code. |
| Location | Not supported (`422 LOCATION_UNSUPPORTED`). |

## Request

```bash theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
curl -X POST https://api.querying.ai/v1/async/task \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $QUERYING_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "taskType": "BING_SEARCH", "payload": { "query": "how does a heat pump work in cold weather", "country": "US", "include": { "markdown": true } } }'
```

The task runs asynchronously. Read the result as described in [Async tasks](/concepts/async-tasks.md).

## Parameters

| Field | Required | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `query` | Yes, or `prompt` | The search query, up to 4,000 characters. |
| `prompt` | Yes, or `query` | Accepted in place of `query`. When a request carries both, `BING_SEARCH` reads `prompt`. |
| `country` | No | The market to search. Defaults to `US`. |
| `include.markdown` | No | `true` adds `aioverview.markdown`, the summary with its headings, lists and tables. |
| `include.rawResponse` | No | `true` adds the full results page HTML as `rawContent`. |

## Response

For example:

```json theme={"theme":"css-variables"}
{
  "surface": "bing_search",
  "organicResults": [
    { "position": 1, "title": "...", "link": "https://...", "displayedLink": "...", "snippet": "...", "date": "Aug 3, 2026", "page": 1 }
  ],
  "ads": [{ "position": 1, "title": "...", "link": "https://...", "displayedLink": "...", "description": "...", "blockPosition": "top" }],
  "relatedSearches": [{ "query": "...", "link": "https://www.bing.com/search?q=..." }],
  "aioverview": {
    "text": "Heat pumps move heat instead of generating it [1]. ...",
    "sources": [{ "position": 1, "url": "https://...", "label": "..." }],
    "citationPills": [{ "citationPillId": 1, "position": 1, "url": "https://...", "label": "...", "domain": "example.com" }],
    "markdown": "..."
  },
  "text": "Heat pumps move heat instead of generating it [1]. ...",
  "sources": [{ "position": 1, "url": "https://...", "label": "..." }]
}
```

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| `surface` | Always `bing_search`. |
| `organicResults` | The organic results on the page. |
| `ads` | Ads, omitted when the page has none. |
| `relatedSearches` | Related searches, omitted when the page has none. |
| `aioverview` | Bing's AI summary, or `null` when Bing showed none. |
| `aioverview.text` | The summary. `[n]` refers to `aioverview.sources[n-1]`. |
| `aioverview.sources` | The pages the summary cites. |
| `aioverview.citationPills` | One entry per source behind an inline citation; sources cited together share a `citationPillId`. Omitted when the summary has no inline citations. |
| `aioverview.markdown` | With `include.markdown: true`. |
| `rawContent` | The results page HTML, with `include.rawResponse: true`. |
| `text`, `sources` | Deprecated copies of `aioverview.text` and `aioverview.sources`, empty when there is no summary. Read `aioverview` in new code. |

> [!WARNING]
>
> `aioverview: null` means Bing showed no AI summary for that query. It is not an error, and the results around it are still returned.

## Limits and errors

* A `query` (or `prompt`) longer than 4,000 characters returns `422 VALIDATION_ERROR`.
* Bing does not write a summary for every query; search-style questions get one more often than instructions. When it shows a summary, Bing moves part of the organic results to the next page, so `organicResults` is shorter on those pages.
* Other request errors are listed in [Errors](/concepts/errors.md).
